What are the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are global goals to be achieved by 2030, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by consensus at the UN Sustainable Development Summit as a plan of action for people, the planet, and prosperity, includes the SDGs. The SDGs consist of goals across 17 areas and 169 targets, and are aimed at achieving them by 2030 while balancing the three dimensions of society, economy, and environment. They are not just for governments, but also for all people and organizations to work together to achieve them. The SDGs aim to "leave no one behind," put an end to all forms of poverty, fight inequality, address climate change, and create a sustainable society. The SDGs set out the specific goals for achieving this.
